So last night Tim and I went ice skating again (AKA my new favorite cardio). Tim is SUCH a good sport and wants to learn how to skate. We both asked for hockey skates this time and it ROCKED my world. Usually when you rent, you get figure skates, but then I asked about hockey skates and they handed them over. My sister told me that I would love hockey skates, but after learning and skating in figure skates as a kid/teen I was a little nervous about trying something new. When I put them on, the left one hurt one of my toes a little bit, but once I got out on the ice and took a slow lap around the rink, I was in heaven. I thought I wanted a pair of figure skates so I could go and get some exercise, but now, I think hockey skates me be in order. I love them! Tim did 10x better than last week except for one minor slam into the boards (self induced, not a hockey check from one of the other skaters). I think someone else may want their own skates too!
Emily, you were right, they are awesome!

sounds like fun - what are hockey skates - how are they different from figure skates? no toe pick? just curious... they look more 'masculine'...
Yes, no toe pick and so much easier to skate in, believe me! More control turning, stopping, etc. There is an entire group of women at the rink that are skating in hockey skates, now I know why! I found a pair I want, but also found pink laces to put in them to sort of girl them up a bit as they are quite masculine. Maybe I will get them after the holidays. There are a couple companies that make women's hockey skates, but they look just like the mens! Can't they make them in red, orange or pink?
